Gabion Cage Wall

Gabion Cage Assembly Guide

Unlock the Secrets to Building Perfect Gabion Cages!

Gabion walls are ideal for garden landscaping, combining easy construction with aesthetic versatility. By using different rocks and materials, they create visually striking features that can segment garden or park areas effectively. They are also effective for acoustic walls, using sound-absorbing materials inside and rocks outside for enhanced functionality and appearance.
Tools needed: Heavy pliers for bending of spiral ends and stiffeners and a hammer for pinning multiple cages (if needed).

Step 1 - Select a cage size

Choose the cage size that fits your needs. We have a variety of sizes to suit all your landscaping needs. Available sizes:

  • 2m x 1m x 1m
  • 2m x 0.5m x 1m
  • 2m x 1m x 0.5m
  • 2m x 0.5m x 0.5m
  • 1m x 1m x 1m
  • 1m x 0.5m x 1m
  • 1m x 1m x 0.5m
  • 1m x 1m x 0.3m
  • 1m x 0.5m x 0.5m
  • 1m x 0.5m x 0.3m
  • 1m x 0.3m x 0.5m
  • 0.5m x 0.5m x 0.5m
  • 0.5m x 0.3m x 0.5m

Step 2 - Begin assembly

Begin by attaching all side panels to the base panel using spirals.
- Securely connect all side panels to the base using spiral's. Ensure the spirals fit smoothly; if not, check that the mesh is squared or adjust the angle of the spiral connection.
- Use pliers to bend the ends of the spirals upward and inward to securely close them inside the cage.

Step 3 -  Add the Stiffeners

Stiffeners are crucial for welded gabions as they prevent bulging caused by the weight of rocks.
For Type 1: Place two stiffeners perpendicular to the side panels, halfway down and halfway across from one side to the other.
For Type 2: Position two stiffeners evenly from the front to the back panel, four apertures down and four across.
For Type 3: Arrange stiffeners at the corners evenly to maximize strength. A cage of 0.5 meters in height should have one stiffener at each corner, and a cage of 1 meter in height should have two stiffeners at each corner.

Step 4 - Add your rocks

Now the cage is prepared for filling with rock. Recommended rock size: 80-200mm for 75 x 75mm mesh. Recommended rock types: Basalt (for retaining walls), Sandstone, Bluestone, River Rock, etc. Our recommendation is our Gabion Stone!

Once the cage is filled, secure the lid using the remaining spirals.
- If you need to connect multiple cages, construct each one separately and then join them together.
- Use a single common spiral to connect them; this spiral can pass through four panels.

Step 5 - Enjoy!!

Take a moment to relax and enjoy the satisfaction of completing your work. Appreciate the effort you've invested and take pride in the finished job.
